Located on the north end of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in North Texas, Denton is know for its active music life and its “college town” atmosphere, serving as home is bath the University of North Texas and the Texas Woman’s University. With a population of 113,383, according to the 2010 United States Census, Denton is the 27th most populous city in Texas.
A land grant led to the formation of Denton County in 1846 and the city was incorporated in 1866. Both City and County were named after pioneer and Texas militia captain John B. Denton. By 1901 the City was home to two colleges and and took the 7th spot in the fastest growing city in the country.
